What does an Image Consultant really do?

I’ve been asked so many times, “What do you really do?” In one sentence here it is:

We work with you to align your image with your roles, goals and personality giving you the clarity and even greater confidence to look, feel, and achieve your best.

We shouldn’t underestimate the power of creating a powerful image and impression. When you get it right, your life changes for the better! You feel better in yourself, build better relationships, get better opportunities in life and overall, you will find great improvements in your professional and personal lives.

Many people vision a “stylist” based on what they see on TV. Most TV personalities who visit people in their homes bully them in to throwing away all clothes? Of course, I’m not one of those people and I don’t believe in that kind of approach. In reality, my purpose in life is to inspire and bring smiles to people around me.

I love “what I do” and “the way I work with my clients” because it makes a huge positive difference to the way my clients feel about themselves. When a person finds a style they love it allows them to see all of their inner and outer beauty. In turn, this can generate a wonderful energy for that person, which then flows into all areas of their lives.

How do we work together?

Are we in the fashion business? We simply use fashion as a guide. The most important thing for me is to get women and men to understand their bodies by using the best styles, colours and accessories. When you learn this you can create a wardrobe that reflects the best you, you wish to project. So when you dress up in the morning it will be an easier and fun experience.

Your image is your most important ‘statement piece’. Although our lives are busier than ever before, your personal style is a consistent reflection of who you are even when you change jobs, cities, or hobbies.

The Process

So how does it work? The process begins by defining a clear vision of “who you truly are”. By helping my clients define their personal vision from an “impression” perspective it becomes much easier to find and utilise lines, shapes, colors, patterns, and textures to bring that vision to life.

The total makeover starts by finding your best colours and clothing styles. Through the use of a structured colour consultancy assessment, together we can find the perfect colours to match your energy, enthusiasm, drive and passion. Likewise, your clothes communicate so much about you and by getting the right styles that work for you we will have you looking and feeling fantastic.

The process continues with your wardrobe, we analyse what you have and play around to maximise the use of your existing clothes, creating new options to mix and match. If necessary we get rid of few things that might not work anymore.

This leads us into the shopping trips. How exciting! We go shopping for the items that you are missing that will complement your entire wardrobe. A shopping trip is a great way to put into practice all the new concepts and tools you have acquired up to now.

There is another question I get asked all of the time:

Do we have to go shopping to very expensive shops?

The answer is NO - I can accommodate any budget! In fact, I buy things for myself in any shop - from Target and Kmart to the more expensive boutique brands. You will be surprised how easy is to create an amazing outfit on any budget when you know your best colours and styles. To me that is more important than what label you wear and what the price tag is.

So hopefully this takes some of the fear and expectations away from the process and replaces it with inspiration and possibility!

Do you ever wonder how some girls always seem to look good no matter what they wear? They could be wearing just a shirt and jeans, but yet they always look stylish.

While you might think it’s a designer brand name, the help of a stylist, or a huge wardrobe, there’s another piece to the puzzle that can make or break an outfit.

Here’s the secret to looking great in even the most basic clothes, something that the world’s most stylish girls have mastered: the art of accessorising. Putting the right accessories together is a basic fashion skill that separates well-dressed people from those who just look ‘ok’. By knowing how to accessorise your outfits you’ll always look great in whatever you wear. The best part? You can find incredible accessories at any budget, so it’s a great way to stretch your wardrobe and save money.

How to Accessorise Any Outfit

Any outfit can go from boring to stunning with the right accessories. You just need to learn to buy pieces that express your personality and remember not to overdo it.

Here are some more tips:

Large earrings can be a great way to dress up a casual or formal outfit. They draw attention to your face and add a sparkle. A statement pair of earrings in any colour or metal can always add drama to an outfit.

Long necklaces. They create long vertical lines which make you look taller and slimmer! Have fun with long beaded necklaces or long chains, one chunky beaded necklace is enough.

Be careful with proportions. If you’re wearing an outfit that is big and voluminous, scale back on the accessories. If you’re wearing something sleeker, you can go a little bigger and bolder with a chunky cocktail ring or big, bright handbag.

Add a belt. Add a wide belt over a flowy dress, or use a brightly colored belt over a black monochromatic outfit to add some colour

The more basic the outfit, the bolder your accessories can be. Amazing outfits are all about balance. For example, pair a simple shirt and jeans with a pair flats, a long sparkly pendant necklace and a few layered bangles in different types of metals. Accessories can add complexity and interest to a plain look, balancing everything out.

Don’t wear too many accessories at once. Exercise a little bit of restraint with accessories – if you have statement earrings on, don’t add bangles, a cocktail ring, and a scarf. Keep it to one or two main pieces.

Try layering your bracelets. Wear a bunch of bangles on one arm to easily add sparkle to an outfit.
Buy accessories that convey a part of your personality. This is so important, and it’s also so much fun. When you buy accessories, go for pieces that you’re attracted to – even better if they have a personal meaning to you.

Don’t be afraid to mix materials. It’s totally ok to mix metals (gold/silver) when it comes to jewelry, don’t be afraid to throw things together and see what happens. You can also mix pearls and metals

Add a splash of color. If your outfit is plain (black and white, black and grey, etc.), create some excitement with jewelry, a scarf, a belt, a handbag, or a bright pair of shoes.

Store your jewellery where you can and access it easily. There is no point in having lots of great accessories if you can’t easily see them in the morning when you are getting ready. Spend some time making sure you have a good visual of what you own
